Dr. Kang

Yoon Sik Kang MD, PhD is recognized as one of the best colorectal surgeons in Korea. He has contributed greatly to the development in the field of colorectal surgery in Korea, and has received various awards, including being voted as the best colorectal surgeon by a group of medical professors in 2002. As a nationally recognized surgeon, he has made countless appearances on medical programs on Korean television, such as KBS, MBC, SBS and MBN. Also, as an internationally recognized surgeon, Dr. Kang was invited to give a presentation in 1999 in Washington D.C. USA, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the American Society of Colorectal Surgeons and Tripartite Colorectal Society Meeting, and he gave a special lecture at an academic conference on colorectal disease in 2005 in Tokyo, Japan. He was trained at the School of Medicine at Seoul National University, and received a PhD of Medicine from the Graduate Medical School of Seoul National University. He also completed a Research Fellowship at St. Mark’s Hospital, London, U.K. in 1993-1994. After opening the first hernia clinic in Korea in 2001, Dr. Kang focused his career on hernia surgery and has performed more than 13,000 inguinal hernia repairs (including mesh repair and non-mesh repair) since then. Meanwhile, he devised the new non-mesh inguinal hernia repair method in 2013 and has performed more than 6,000 non-mesh inguinal hernia repairs so far. He is a vice president of the Korean Surgical Society currently.
